What’s So Special About Ford’s 2014 SUV Line?

Shopping for your new SUV can be remarkably similar to trying to find new clothes. Compact models may be a little too snug for some yet just right for someone else. The seven passenger models might seem overwhelmingly big or unnecessary to a single person, but to a person with a large family, that extra seating is just what they’re looking for. Luckily, no matter what your needs are, Ford’s SUV line has a model that fits the bill.

The Edge

The 2014 Edge is a five-passenger SUV with a lot of tech options. Electronic safety features include a forward collision warning system and a rear cross-traffic alert to help avoid accidents, while the Sync System voice control provides drivers with a whole new level of convenience. Its standard 3.5-liter V6 engine will work for most buyers, but Ford does offer two other engines for the Edge.

A more powerful V6 engine is available in the Sports trim package and buyers can also get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s turbocharged for a better fuel economy. The Edge comes in four different trims: SE, SEL, Limited and Sport, with the base SE model loaded with features including rear privacy windows and a 4.2″ display screen.

The Explorer

Improving on its predecessor, the 2014 Explorer has an improved braking system, new paint options and better electric steering than the 2013 model. This midsize crossover vehicle can set up to seven panel with its three rows and comes in four types: base, XLT, Limited and Sport trims.

Features on the base Explorer model include rear auxiliary climate control, air conditioning, power windows and locks, cruise control and air filtration. Its media center includes a CD player and auxiliary audio input jack and Sync Bluetooth connectivity with a six-speaker system.

The Escape

Similar to the 2013 model, the 2014 Escape largely has changes only in its available features. Sync connectivity and the rearview camera are now available for all the models and the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is not a part of the Titanium trim anymore, with the manufacturer lowering the price to reflect the difference. The SEL trim, available in years past, is no longer being offered, with the 2014 Escape coming in S, SE and Titanium.

A compact crossover model that can seat five, the 2014 Escape’s base “S” model comes with a variety of features, including a blind-spot mirror that’s integrated, cruise control, full power options and a full media center with a USB/iPod interface and a CD player.

All of the 2014 SUV models come with the MyFord Touch interface for electronics.
